Transportation Asset Management
The Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Office of Infrastructure hired Woodward to produce a brochure to help high-level decision makers in transportation agencies understand and use transportation asset management tools.
This publication draws upon the principles outlined in the “American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Asset Management Guide, Volume II.” It is designed to distill the principles and procedures outlined in the guide, and make them more readily understood.
The goal of a transportation asset management program is to minimize the life-cycle costs for managing and maintaining transportation assets, including roads, bridges, tunnels, rails, and roadside features. Through the use of management systems, engineering and economic analysis, and other tools, transportation agencies can more comprehensively view the big picture and evaluate collected data before making decisions as to how specific resources should be deployed.
